Senators Unveil New Logo

RC Press (Anaheim) - Following their predictable Stanley Cup loss to the Anaheim Ducks, the jubilant Ottawa Senators held a press conference to officially unveil their new logo. Proud owner Eugene Melnyck held up the new jersey for photographers, declaring that "a new era" in Senators hockey had dawned. After choking in their 10th playoff appearance, the perenially underacheiving club decided to take official ownership of their most enduring characteristic. The new logo features a stylized male figure making the international sign for choking, surrounded by Senator red, and encircled in a striking black border. The remainder of the uniform remains unchanged.

Said a beaming GM John Muckler, "This is sort of a tip of the hat to all our fans. Without them, we wouldn't have been able to choke on such a consistent basis. But they've always believed in our ability to choke, and they pay good money to see it happen. This is just our way of saying 'thanks'."

Head Coach Bryan Murray echoed the sentiment. "You know, I was getting tired of hearing about all these other teams that were supposedly better at choking. Sure, you could make a case for the 1980's Blue Jays, or the Buffalo Bills. But I think everyone here has always felt deep down that we could choke better and more often than any of those other guys. Changing the logo shows that this front office is committed to going that extra mile."

For their part, the players were mostly relieved. Defenceman Wade Redden modeled the new jersey, as well as his new Callaway fairway driver. "I have to admit, I was getting a bit nervous," conceded Redden of his team's early round successes. "Some of the guys were starting to think we might actually win this thing! But I just told everyone to calm down, and play our game. Once we got in that groove, the choking came easy".

Grinning widely, captain Daniel Alfredsson had a message for hated rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs. "Every time we played the Leafs, they used to tell us that we could never beat them in the playoffs. Sometimes we even heard that crap from the Sabres. But tonight, here in Anaheim, we proved that we can choke against anyone, not just the Leafs. If that doesn't shut them up, I don't know what will".

Note: Apologies for the paucity of posts in the last little while. Its been an incredibly busy week. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back to it soon.

Biting, but very funny!

Steve V - It was inevitable, really. I'm a Leafs fan myself, so I guess I can't laugh too loudly. But I do take a perverse pleasure in watching the uber-talented Sens consistently go down in flames.

Kinda funny. Theres something bizarre about a Leafs fan laughing at another Canadian team for failing in the Stanley Cup finals.
I guess the bitterness that builds in October when most of you realize that again...its just not going to be your year...somehow consumes and overhwhelms you. Like laughing at your buddy who wont jump out of the boat to go for a swim just seconds before the shark eats you....funny but sad.
I'd like to say I enjoy the Leafs going down in flames but, its become a ritual. Carry on the bitterness Leaf fan...and keep an eye on TSN at 6:30 eastern today..thats when thousands will meet the Sens plane and thank them for a great ride...I know its June, but, alot of teams play into June.

billg - Though I can't speak for all of Leaf Nation, I can tell you that I'm not bitter in the least. You see, the big difference between the Sens and the Leafs is that the Sens are supposed to do well. Aside from Sundin, Kaberle, and a couple of others, the Leafs aren't exactly choc-a-bloc with talent. If anything, they over-achieve. Unlike the Sens, who despite bursting at the seams with talent, always find a way to fold in the playoffs.

So I'll look for you on TSN, out there waving your little red and black flags, and proudly shouting "We're #2!, We're #2!"

ah the bitter jelousy of fans of the 28 other teams that choked before the Sens apparently did. Yes the Sens have talent and yes they have not always performed the way they did, but they still made it the the final. As I said before, that's alot better than 28 other teams can say. It's only half way through the season now and apparently the Leafs are already getting ready to dust off their golf clubs. Nice 5-0 Leaf loss to the Ducks by the way, they really showed those choking Sens how to play Anaheim.

Hey Sens fans. After 10 years of making ti to the playoffs you think you'd have something to show for it but no... just a Prince of Wales trophy.
Shut up and talk to me when you get your name on the cup.
