Senator Sam Brownback: Vegetative?

Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback is going campaigning with the late Terri Schiavo's brother this weekend in Iowa. Bobby Schindler (Shiavo's brother), you may recall, was among those lobbying for the government to intervene and prevent Schiavo's husband from removing her feeding tube after 15 years in a vegetative state following a severe anoxic brain injury.

Brownback, if it needs any clarification, is a right-wing nut.

He is the same genius that raised his hand in support of creationist theory at a candidates' debate. He told us without any sense of irony in a NY Times editorial that "People of faith should be rational, using the gift of reason that God has given us". He has called homosexuality "an abomination", and likened abortion to the Holocaust. Oh, and he accepted $42,000 from Jack Abramoff and his associates.

All of which makes me wonder if Brownback himself isn't persistently vegetative.

Brownback… what a complete loon. It’s hard to see what purpose is really served by his running, other that is, than to provide comic relief for sentient humans.
Hey, in that same article from the Guardian, did you happen to notice the attack by Mike Huckabee on Michael Moore because he’s fat. Yeah, it’s people like Moore that are a big reason why the American healthcare system is in so much trouble because they don’t look after their own health. While there’s obviously an element of truth in that, it totally misses the points raised in the film about inherent flaws in the system.

RT - Yes, I did see that blurb about Moore. I'm not sure whether people like Huckabee just have a poor sense of humour, or if they are really so dense that they are unable to grasp the relatively basic thesis of Moore's movie. In any case, he does what most wingnuts do when cornered with logic - he engages in ridiculous personal attacks.

Huckabee completely ignored the fact that Moore got his eyes opened when doing the film and has lost 30 lbs, eats fruit and veg's and walks a lot.

Harry Redknapp thinks the Football Association should wait until the end of the season before approaching anyone to be the next England manager.

Redknapp is favourite to replace current incumbent Fabio Capello, who confirmed on Friday that he would leave his post after Euro 2012.

"It's very difficult for [the FA] to choose another manager if he's already working," the Tottenham manager said.
