Nope, No Problems Here....

The emaciated young girl in the picture is a patient at the Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar City, Afghanistan. She is but one of many supposed beneficiaries of approximately $5 million contributed by Canada for supplies, food, and infrastructure at the hospital. If the girl seems a little underwhelmed, she can be forgiven. You see, no one at the Mirwais Hospital can confirm that any of Canada's aid money (given to the Red Cross via CIDA) has ever been received.

Video evidence collected by the Senlis Council has documented child starvation and a largely dysfunctional hospital, lacking in beds, equipment, medications and staff. According to Norine MacDonald, lead researcher for the Senlis Council: "We could not find evidence of CIDA's work or CIDA-funded work at the hospital. We were not able to find the maternity project, or evidence of the $5 million that CIDA says it has given".

Bev Oda, deftly picking up the reins of ineptitude from Josee Verner, has replied merely that she doesn't have those concerns "at all". Demonstrating that peculiar blend of incompetence and arrogance, she remains convinced that "progress" is being made. I don't mean to nitpick here, but wouldn't it be in the government's interest to ensure that Canadian money isn't being funneled directly into the pockets of corrupt administrators and Afghan officials? Don't we owe at least that much to the innocent victims of the NATO misadventure in Afghanistan?

Ha! Now that hits the nail on the head. I'm sure that Harper would much rather have an arrogant, yet competent team, but 'dems de breaks.

BTW, I see you've weighed in on some of the nonsense that's been going on at Red Tory with Werner Patels and Patrick Ross. Does that make you re-think this whole blogging thing?

P.S. Happy Birthday!

Bowler,

Thanks for the b-day wishes, my friend! It was a pretty low-key affair...went to the Keg on Granville Island with a few friends, and then to a small party. (Never turned into a RAVE, RAVE, RAVE, RAVE like the old days!)

Yeah, this whole sorry episode over at RT's is a real shame. I suppose it should come as no surprise that the internet is a relative haven for people with personality disorders. If Werner and Patrick think they have accomplished anything productive with their shenanigans, they are sorely mistaken.

The one advantage of being a small-time blogger is that likely no one knows or cares enough about my blog to want to "track me down",as it were. So, no, it hasn't deterred me from blogging.

In fact, I was rather looking forward to the possibility of the BowlerBlog! (your tagline could be "You Can't HANDLE the Truth!")

What... You were somehow unsatisfied by Bev's patented "La, la, la, la.... I caaaaaan't heeeear you" non-response?

Regarding the other matter, what a heinous waste of time. Pathetic. Or, should I say Patelic.

RC - Point well taken, big fish and small fish I guess. Nonetheless, the precedent that was set by outing a blogger for spite gives me pause for thought. I guess you have to hope that you don't offend the wrong wingnut. I remember once you had said that you blogged pseudonymously due to issues of professionalism and separating the personal from your role as a physician. I would share the same concerns as a lawyer.

RT - What Patels did to you was despicable. I'm glad to see, however, that it hasn't slowed you down a bit. Your blog is a treasure.

Since we are so far off topic anyways, here is your Tuesday morning after the long weekend laugh.

Bowler - Heh. The Bill Murray thing is priceless! Thanks for the link!

RT - Bev Oda...why does she even bother?

OK, off to work!
