Vick Innocent!! (Of Gambling)

Last month, when Michael Vick was brought up on federal charges related to dogfighting, he declared "I'm innocent". And by innocent, he meant guilty.
In July he stated that he "look[ed] forward to clearing [his] good name". In perhaps one of the least effective attempts at clearing one's name, Vick today plead guilty to financing a dogfighting ring and executing underperforming animals.

Strangely, though he readily admitted to running a criminal enterprise and murdering dogs by hanging or drowning them, he bristled at the suggestion that he might have gambled on the "sport".

"Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights. Vick did not receive any of the proceeds of the purses that were won by Bad Newz Kennels"
Of course not. He wouldn't want to sully the good name of illegal dogfighting by doing something as tawdry as gambling. Hey, Vick may be a douchebag, a criminal, and an animal torturer...but he's no Pete Rose!

Apparently Marbury of the NBA said this:

“We don’t say anything about people who shoot deer or shoot other animals. You know, from what I understand, dogfighting is a sport. It’s just behind closed doors.”

What a maroon. Not that I'm a proponent of hunting as a sport, but talk about missing the point.

Bowler,

Ah yes, the Gospel According to Marbury.

I think he has since "clarified" his position on the issue, likely at the behest of his agent/publicist who undoudbtedly burst an aneurysm after reading his idiotic comments.

Vick is another in a long line of grossly overpaid athletes who seemingly have it all, but throw it away with senseless criminal acts. For Marbury to have suggested that Vick is somehow the victim in all of this was beyond absurd.

I could tolerate a gambling problem - but with animals and the cruelty - no.

I hope they put him away for many, many years and I hope his career is ruined.

Interesting article in the Toronto Star today about. Gist of it was that he's not merely an example of a gifted yet spoiled professional athlete, but exhibits several personality traits of a psychopath. Harsh, but perhaps accurate in all of the circumstances.

BTW, yet another brilliant video. You have a knack for finding the best stuff on You Tube.

Bowler,

That was an interesting article. I wonder where Vick will be in 15 years, without a pro sports life (and paycheque).

By the by, I noticed you've opened up your own profile! Will it be long before we see a "Bowler Blog"?

Here in Toronto there's been a lot of blarney on the sports radio call-in shows about "why is Vick being crucified and Mark Bell is getting a free pass?" Give me a break. The NHL should consider suspending Bell (if only to spare JFJ the embarrassment of yet another managerial gaffe)but again, Bell's douchebaggery is not in the same league as organizing and financing a dog-fighting ring, and torturing and killing the losing dogs.

BTW, I believe that's how Jeffery Dahmer got his start - with dogs, then he moved on to people.

"Bowler Blog" - I love it! If it comes to be you will be duly credited !

Great blog. I really liked it. I have also created a lens in same niche. This is my first time, hope u guys like it. Here’s a brief intro: In your search for some top gambling strategies you've probably come across various systems, but the bottom line is - the odds are stacked in the casino's favour. The only real system that overcomes this is card counting at blackjack, which is illegal. However things have now changed…For nearly 10 years a group of serious businessmen in a dedicated research laboratory did in depth research into highly advanced mind power techniques, including some incredible top gambling strategies. http://www.squidoo.com/top-gambling-strategies/
