A quick entry today, to bid thanks and farewell to one our most prolific Libloggers, Red Tory. Yesterday, to the surprise of many, RT hung up the proverbial towel (at least temporarily). Real life, it appears, has a strange way of creeping up on us all!
I think it's fair to say that Red represented some of the best in Canadian political blogging. Thoughtful, erudite, and always engaging of his many commenters, his was always an active and entertaining forum for discussion.
From my own tiny corner of the blogosphere, I wish him all the best and hope to see him back in the near future.

Red Tory is an insulting ass to people who comment on his site. He is a self important wind bag who sits at his computer and pontificates all the time probably because he cant even hold down a job. He has retired from blogging before just to come back. Hopefully this time he stays retired.
Anon is probably the one whose comments were not allowed on his blog...and rightfully so.
As demonstrated by Anonymous above,
Red Tory frustrated the hell out a lot of conservative boot lickers as witnessed by the blustering spittle that flowed as they searched in vain for a comeback to any one of Red's poignant messages.
Hurry back Red. We enjoyed you very much.
I think the volume of comments he received (including those of trolls and insulting anonymii like our friend above) was a testament to the quality of his writing and the impact of his blog.
Anonymous @ 12:16 may think that he was an "insulting ass", but he didn't suffer fools gladly, nor did he feel the need to be goaded by trolls. At the very least, he allowed comments from pretty much everyone, friend and foe, and that's more than you can say for a lot of bloggers out there.
Hurry back indeed, Red!
RC — Thanks. It’s been fun for the most part and I’m sure I’ll be back in one forum or another some time next year. It’s hard to keep a pompous ass down after all, and the temptation to yank the chains of idiotic twatwaffles such as the wanker above is hard to resist.
Nice pic of Dizzy by the way!
RT - Cheers, mate! I have no doubt we'll see you back and in fine form before too long.
Re: Dizzy - I thought the 'older, wiser' portrait would be an appropriate bookend to your former avatar.
Quite so.
The dynamic between Disraeli and Gladstone is something of an apt metaphor for the present-day rhetoric in many respects. Funnily enough, it’s today’s Conservatives who might best be described as the Liberal Gladstone was at the time as an “extraordinary mixture of envy, vindictiveness, hypocrisy and superstition.”
It's early Sunday morning and I'm going through withdrawal. No Red Tory - I've got the shakes.
So, out of boredom, because I do get up so early I decided to read the Blogging Tories. My mistake, made my withdrawal worse.
Funny, they are the ones who stay blogging - this is truly frightening.
Why do they get so angry with RT? He hits too close to the truth and they can't face it - no good arguments, so like children they do the attack thing. Why? Because they having nothing positive in their lives it seems and they don't have intelligent arguments send back.
So, Red Canuck, I'm hoping you will help my withdrawal (don't tell RT - you are also top notch in the blogging world).
Hope RT returns to save us from all that blue hot air out there.
Ruralsandi - Thanks for the kind words, but those are some awfully big shoes to fill! :)
Yes, it's a little disheartening to see the Blogging Tories continuing to toil away, while the likes of RT go on hiatus. Perhaps it speaks to the general state of political discourse in the blogosphere right now. It's so easy to slip into circular and unproductive partisan vitriol, and I can understand why more thoughtful bloggers grow tired of it with time.
But it's funny - I too turned on my computer this morning and absent mindedly clicked on "RT" in my 'favourites' tab. D'Oh!
Anyways, thanks for stopping by my humble place. Time doesn't permit me to post as voluminously as RT, but I promise I'll do my best!
RT - The dynamic between Disraeli and Gladstone is something of an apt metaphor for the present-day rhetoric in many respects.
An astute observation. Indeed the Gladstone/Disraeli split highlights the curious and somewhat malleable definitions of "Liberal" and "Conservative" through the years and through various geopolitical circumstances. I wonder - what are the Corn Laws of our time?
He'll be greatly missed, but he'll be back.
So do him proud and continue your mission.
RT incited me to write, not even close to his calibre, but he pushed me with his content.
You have a great blog here. Comparison to his blog or any of our blogs is silly.
RT has a singular voice as do we all. He happens to be brilliant as well.
RC...do what you do, you do well. RT will come back when it's more interesting and perhaps when fewer idiots seek him out.
I acknowledge your tribute and Martin knows how much I love him.
Do not discount your blog or your sense of what is going on though, please.
KNB - Thanks! I'll keep blogging, no worries there. I'm still relatively new at this game, and perpetually amazed at how big the blogging world is. It really affords everyone a voice...and the associated pros and cons of such a soapbox.
Perhaps the BT's don't represent the majority of conservatives in this country, but they are certainly amongst the most vocal. And if they actually are what passes for conservativism here, than we liberals need to continue to debate vigorously in whatever capacity we can!
BTW, keep up the good work yourself!
Sad to see RT, go but I would say that you are also a formidable voice of reason yourself, RC.
You may not post as often as RC (who could??), but given the demands of your profession, your fans (and I am one of them) are grateful for your insights, and knack for finding the best of YouTube.
You will also need to develop a thick skin and the wisdom to not suffer fools gladly.
