So long to Mitt "the Sh*t" Romney, as he thankfully withdrew from the Republican Presidential race today! Putting the "ass" in "class", he dropped this turd on the Obama and Clinton campaigns:

If that's the best this schmuck had to offer, I hope the door did hit him on the way out.
This essentially hands the nomination to John McCain, although if the beacon of wisdom emananting from Pictou Nova Scotia is to be believed, Mike Huckabee is a "formidable force". Pardon me while I contemplate this: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be trouble. I think McCain is the most electable of the Republicans, and if I were to bet right now, I suspect the Republicans are more likely to hold the White House than not.
It would be close, I suspect. I don't put much past the American electorate. I think that if Clinton wins the Dem nomination, McCain's odds will improve considerably. But if Obama prevails, it will be a much more interesting Presidential race.
Of course, it's all speculation. The hard righties and motivated Evangelicals hate McCain. But it's hard to see them voting for anyone else if push comes to shove. The nominees will likely have to choose their VP running mates carefully in order to appeal to the respective wings of their parties that have eschewed them.
It was interesting to see McCain groveling for the support of the hard right yesterday. Not that the wingnuts would vote for anyone else, but it is possible that they might stay home. I therefore expect McCain to start pandering more to the right, and will probably choose Huck as his running mate to placate the evangelicals.
(On the other hand, apparently Ann Coulter has said she would vote for Hillary instead of McCain!)
BTW, I'm still chuckling over that picture of "Mitt" (wtf kind of name is "Mitt"?) putting on a rubber glove in front of a sign saying "Fudge". We've got to think of an appropriate caption for that photo!

I heard Coulter's "vow" to work for the Clinton campaign rather than vote for McCain. But worthless dishonest hags like her are blatantly full of shit, so I don't imagine she'll be following through on her promise anytime soon. Besides, can you picture Hillary accepting an endorsement from Ann Coulter?
It's probably too much to ask that the wingnuts stay home on election day. Unfortunately, they are the most vitriolic and the most motivated to voice their opinions. McCain will get their votes by default; if he's wise, he should appeal to centrists and try to steal votes from conservative Democrats.
