Ezra Levant: Save the Oil Companies!

Uncle Ezra, acclaimed wingnut and co-founder of the failed fishwrapping Western (Sub)Standard, has this to say about the environmental tragedy in the Syncrude sesspools:
I can’t believe that 500 ducks were wasted that way. Imagine all the lost foie gras (though optimistic scientists have said five of the ducks can be saved). And it’s not just a blow to fine dining. How many Turducken connoisseurs will now have to make do with turkey stuffed just with chicken? How many restaurants will go without their signature dish, Peking Duck – another devious scheme by the Dalai Lama to embarrass the Beijing Olympics?
...Save the ducks? Sure. But I’d rather liberate Saudi women, save Russian democracy, or stop Nigerian theft of foreign aid.
Why these lofty goals need necessarily exclude responsible domestic environmental policy is anyone's guess. But I guess it's that type of advanced thinking that led the Western (Sub) Standard to such lofty heights. And one of Ezra's commenters, "Jon", nicely sums up the conservative position:

But I agree with your point. Save Canadian oil companies! Keep them profitable.

Can't we try to save Saudi Arabian women, etc. and save ducks too - why limit yourself Ezra LeRant?

This guy is insane, absolutely ready for certification. Get the papers ready to have him committed.

Sandi - I know, it's mind-numbing isn't it? Levant goes off about everything from Hugo Chavez to the 9/11 terrorists being from Saudi Arabia. In his mind, so long as we're not committing injustices as grave as those of other oil-producing countries, there's no need to be concerned.

It never seems to dawn on him that terrorism in Saudi Arabia and corruption in Nigeria have nothing to do with developing sound and effective environmental regulations for our oilsands here at home. If he's so interested in foie gras, I'd like to feed him some from those poor ducks that died in the Syncrude ponds.

Who cares about a bunch of ducks?? People first, but too many lefties shed tears when an animals dies but couldn't give a rats about the suffering of people.

Uh huh. You mean like when we express concern that our troops are being needlessly killed you accuse us of not supporting the troops, or when we express concern that Afghan prisoners are being tortured you label us "terrorist sympathisers", or when we advocate for people like Brenda Martin while you and your ilk cassually dismiss her? Spare me your bullshit, please.

And need I point out the obvious - that the ducks represent a warning about the hazards of lax environmental regulations, which have long term implications for us all. And, as Ruralsandi also mentioned, concern for the wellbeing of humans and wildlife need not be mutually exclusive.

They only care in the least bit about this because the U.S. has imposed restrictions on “dirty energy” and this incident only serves to highlight what a filthy business the tar sands are. In other words, it’s bad public relations. After all, that’s why Stelmach was down in Washington a little while back trying to convince legislators that Syncrude’s plans to remediate the land are actually more than a complete joke (one that’s eventually going to be on the taxpayers, because the whole program is massively underfunded by the oil companies).

RT - Yes, this all happened at a particularly inconvenient time for Special Ed and his cronies in big oil. And if it hadn't been for the "Liberal-biased" MSM that so irresponsibly reported on this story, it would have been met with a predictable yawn from dorks like Ezra and the rest of the BTs.
