It's one thing to take politicians promises with a grain of salt. Mr. Harper is proposing a much sturdier challenge: how to believe them when they take a promise and make it the law of the land, and then ignore it, nullify it, bury that law, just because it suits them.
So the Conservatives will be taking us into another election, running on a record of broken promises, indifference to climate change, stewardship of a declining economy, and possible violations of election financing laws. And, according to the latest polls, this may be good enough to win. Hooray for Canada!

I fail to find anywhere in that bill, where it says Majority or Minority.
He has one good habit of outright lying to the people.. so why do they still love him?
Lizt - Good question. This guy ran on a platform of trust and accountability. Everyone knows he's delivered on neither. So why is this even close? Perhaps it speaks to the underwhelming nature of political leadership in parliament at the present time.
Tough to know what to make of that poll. 28% seems below even core Liberal support. Only twice in history have Liberals gained under 30% popular vote (1867 and 1984). I think I would need to see a few consistent polls before I could believe that the Cons lead the Liberals here in Ontario. Perhaps its my Toronto bias, but my sense all summer has been that the Libs would likely increase their Ontario seat total, even if they lost ground elsewhere.
MD - You may be right about this particular poll, but the Cons have been generally polling slightly higher than the Libs for a long time. Given their pathetic record and seeming disdain for parliament, the media, and even the core values of their own base, I find it a bit perplexing.

Perhaps you should take your bullshit indignation back to the Blogging Tories and explain your "disgust" to fellow wingnuts like Dr. Roy, who routinely uses terms like "pseudochretien" and "obamessiah", or to SDA and Kathy Shaidle who portray natives as lazy incest-mongers and celebrate the massacre of innocent Indians with impunity.

I caught that little nugget on the National as well. I don't think Jack has much of a choice but to talk tough. He missed the boat on getting on the Enviro-train, and now he's getting squeezed by the Greens.
Anyways, if the NDP focus their attacks on the CPC, I think that may actually benefit the Liberals, as they won't have to endure attacks from both sides, and can therefore focus their message on consolidating the anti-Harper vote.
